Radiation Transfer

The presence of an absorbing medium either within the source region or between the source and the observer, would change the spectrum. The change is mainly seen as an overall decrease in intensity of the radiation as a function of the absorption coefficient of the intervening medium and the optical depth. (Ref : Alan T. Moffet, "Strong non-thermal radio emission from galaxies").
